Forces is an original genre game, written in [[Turing]] by [[Windsurfer]] (Adam Bielinski). It is considered to be one of the best examples of Turing developed games, rivaling [[Evasive Maneuvers]].

== About Forces ==
You are a small circle controlled by the mouse. You make sparkles to hurl at enemies that try to run and collide with you. There are 6 different and distict enemies.

*You control a small spherical ball of pulsating energy. To move about the infinite space, move the mouse around the window. If you go outside of the window, the game will pause. You can also pause the game by pressing ESC on the keyboard.
**To create sparkles, press A or left-click.
**To repel sparkles, press D or right-click.
**To attract sparkles, press S or middle-click.
*The faster a sparkle is moving, the more damage an enemy receives by getting hit by it.

*To use ''Special Powers'' press the Spacebar.
**To switch your active special power, press Alt or the letter 'B'.

; Force Vortex : A swirling frenzy of chaotic destruction. A favourite of many.

==Who is Mazer?==
Mazer was a proud Greek man studying computer science at the [[University of Windsor]]. He was one of the earliest remaining members of [[CompSci.ca]], though his existence is woven in fog. Being a ninja, Mazer tried to remain as stealthy as possible. He achieved this through numerous name changes and by his ordinary rank on [[CompSci.ca]], despite the fact that he was a moderator. Mazer was the original creator of the [[IRC channel]]. He was the author of [[Evasive Maneuvers]]. He was a leader in the monthly [[Avatar Themes]]. Mazer went out for milk one night, and has yet to return.

Hikaru79 is a regular on the [[CompSci.ca]] forums and even more so in the [[IRC channel]].

Hikaru79 is one of the most sane regulars of the [[IRC channel]]: [[wtd]] spent an age as an evil hobbit, named [[Lotho]]; [[Cervantes]] is obsessed with a [[Minsc|mentally unstable, fictional character]]. [[Cornflake|md]] has moments of stability but is on the whole crazy. [[Gandalf]] is still traumatized by his defeat in the [[IRC 2006 02 28|Minsc-Gandalf duel]].

=== Why the Name? ===
Hikaru79 comes from [[Hikaru No Go]], which is related to [[Go]]. The 79 is a random number and holds no further significance.

== Character and Interests ==
Hikaru79 is possibly the nicest person one could ever meet. He is generous, fun, trusting, and always willing to help. He's also always good for an evil scheme or two. But those who partake in evil schemes often have [[Bot Test 2006 01 22|evil scheming on them]].

Hikaru79 has many computer related interests, which include trying to read the source for [[AI]] of games such as [[Go]]. [[Go]] is another one of Hikaru79's passions: he claims that when one begins to play [[Go]], that individual will forfeit all hopes of doing well in school or other things, for it is highly addictive.

Hikaru79 enjoys [[Anime]] as much as the standard [[CompSci.ca]] member. He downloads loads of [[Anime]] and other things, including e-books. Hikaru79 claims that he has hundreds upon hundreds of gigabytes of files. He may even have reached the much fabelled terabyte.

== Academics ==
Hikaru79 attends Vincent Massey Secondary School (VMSS, also EMSS: [[Evasive Maneuvers]] Secondary School), and is currently in grade 12. He intends to attent the [[University of Waterloo]] for [[CompSci at Waterloo| computer science]].

Hikaru79 is a rare specimen, in that he has combined his regular computer science and math/science courses with '''French'''. Curious.

Evasive Maneuvers is a spaceship fighter game, writen in [[Turing]] by [[Mazer]]. It is considered to be one of the best games ever made in Turing, with [[Forces]] as the only comparison.

The post was originally made in June of 2003 the day after Mazer handed it in to his Computer Science teacher as his final project and had to let it go. After an initial reaction of confusion by the community, Mazer realised that some instructions would be necessary for those not already familiar with [[the]] game's interface (Evasive Maneuvers often attracted a small group of regular players to the computer lab each day at lunchtime during it's creation), and the game seemed to be fairly well received.

Or too well received? On numerous occassions Mazer was asked for the source code to the game, and while he had no great dislike for open source software there was still the concern of abuse and plagiarism by lazy highschool students. After becoming quite fed up with these requests and the constant reviving of the topic from several pages back, Mazer (a moderator at this point) decided to put an end the madness and lock the topic.

Afterwards, Mazer chose to unlock the topic, for unkown reasons. For a time it lay in peace in the depths of time, until one day somebody brought it back up. It was locked again, and this time [[the]] topic's name was disguised. The post was originally made in June of 2003 the day after Mazer handed it in to his Computer Science teacher as his final project and had to let it go. After an initial reaction of confusion by the community, Mazer realised that some instructions would be necessary for those not already familiar with [[the]] game's interface (Evasive Maneuvers often attracted a small group of regular players to the computer lab each day at lunchtime during it's creation), and the game seemed to be fairly well received.

Or too well received? On numerous occassions Mazer was asked for the source code to the game, and while he had no great dislike for open source software there was still the concern of abuse and plagiarism by lazy highschool students. After becoming quite fed up with these requests and the constant reviving of the topic from several pages back, Mazer (a moderator at this point) decided to put an end the madness and lock the topic.

Much of #compsci.ca's early history is shrouded in mystery. Nobody is quite sure the exact time when it was created, although he did not begin to regularly attend it until quite some time later. Its first regular inhabitants were [[wtd]] and a mysterious lurker named [[Ultrahex]], who though a member of [[CompSci.Ca]] does not seem to ever post on the forums. Things took off sometime in early 2005, when a wave of members, including [[Hikaru79]], [[Cervantes]], and [[Gandalf]] started regularly attending the channel. At present, #compsci.ca has a regular population of about ten, give or take, although it is subject to occasional flurries of activity, often when the moon is full.

As of April 15th, 2006, #compsci.ca is for [[CompSci.ca]] and programming related discussion. Excessive off topic discussion is to be held elsewhere.

When [[wtd]] announced it, there was a great cheer for [[wtd]] since he created the channel for the rest of the users to use and ask questions about. The channel no longer exists, after users stopped using it.

An old practice among online communities in which nerds argued over who had [[the]] best [[avatar]] in use for that month. It was very common for people to change avatars frequently, either indicating issues with self perception, or just randomly stumbling upon images deemed "cooler" than their current one. After a pre-determined period of time (a week was normal, logically it would be less than a month) the poll would end and the winner was declared to be the member who received the most votes.

This was the last known Avatar of the Month Award thread on the [[CompSci.ca]] forums. Though there were many familiar names entered this time, the mood had changed dramatically from the previous contests. Most noticeable was the drastic change in Mazer's enthusiasm for the whole affair and wanted to leave it altogether. In the end, Paul Bian was the self proclaimed winner, but has yet to receive any kind of award.

== Conspiracy Theory ==
When it became public knowledge that no winner of the Avatar of the Month Award had ever actually received an award, fear and panic began to spread, and with them, so did suspicion. Members began to develop theories as to what could be going on behind their backs. For instance, it seemed very stranged to a number of people that the only time an Avatar of the Month Award styled thread popped up was between the months of January and December. Some came to the conclusion that there never really was an award. Even though a picture of the award is available for anyone to see on the [[CompSci.ca]] forum, many argue that it looks like an obvious CG fake. Some believe that the whole contest was a trick played by the administrators to collect all of the money the members gambled and spend it on legal copies of Turing.

Duckfest was sparked during a spirited conversation in compsci's very own [[IRC]] chatroom.
According to DuckFest Fanatic/co-ordinator/expert [[Cervantes]]:

Duckfest 2005 found its first tangible incarnation in the CompSci.ca forums when [[Cornflake]] created a thread in Off Topic: [http://www.compsci.ca/v2/viewtopic.php?t=10249 Attack of The Ducks!]

As Cervantes explains it:

There was some talk of wtd's handel (which is really "What The Duck", not "Welcome To Darwin", no matter what wtd will tell you.) wtd did some quick ninja googling, and within seconds showed us the way: iloveduckies.com. I added the eyepatch to the "Buccaneer" duck, and uploaded it. I created a signature to go with it. I suggested that I would delete all posts in that thread by non-ducklings, but that turned out not to be necessary: within a few days, we had a good portion of active CompSci.ca members with duck avatars, including [[Tony]], who had previously held his [[devil avatar]] for all eternity.
