We agreed to remove part of the last name from the post in question to be nice however we do not believe that we where in any way at fault and clearly state CompSci.ca, DWITE.ca, Tony and Dan are not responsible for the content of users posts or comments on the site and if there is any slander or libel (witch there is not in this case) it would be the fault of the user. Furthermore all content on CompSci.ca and DWITE.ca should be taken as opinion and we do not see how comments and posts can be taken as anything but opinion.

The following details any legal threats sent to or relating to CompSci.ca or DWITE.ca. All legal threats sent to Dan, Tony, CompSci.ca or DWITE.ca will end up here from now on.

LanSchool

On August 5, 2008 LanSchool sent the following letter to Dan about the page LanSchool on this wiki: [1].

More on the issue can be found on the blog here: [2]

This issue was resolved peacefully by both sides coming to agreement with some changes to the wiki page. More on this can be found here: [3].

Michael Gontier

On February 16th, 2009 Michael Gontier sent the following via e-mail to Tony and Dan about a post that the user zeldamaster1230 made in 2004 here: [4]

subject	Slander, Criminal allegations

It has been brought to my attention by colleagues of mine that my name
has been indexed on google linking to a blog on this website. After a quick google
search of "michael gontier" I found said post as hit #7.
The absurd comments contained within could be classified as nothing other than
slanderous, if not criminal. My name is not one that is common so I am
taking these accusations personally and I ask that they are removed
immediately so that further action is not required. Thank-You in advance,

We agreed to remove Michael's last name from the post in question to be nice, however, we do not believe that we were in any way at fault. It is clearly stated that CompSci.ca, DWITE.ca, Tony and Dan are not responsible for the content of user's posts and/or comments on the site, and if there is any slander or libel (which there is not in this case) it would be the fault and responsibility of the posting user. Furthermore all content on CompSci.ca and DWITE.ca should be regarded as opinion, and we do not see how comments and posts can be taken as anything but opinion.

In response to my complaint you stated that :
"We agreed to remove part of the last name from the post in question to be
nice however we do not believe that we where in any way at fault and clearly
state CompSci.ca, DWITE.ca, Tony and Dan are not responsible for the content
of users posts or comments on the site and if there is any slander or libel
(witch there is not in this case) it would be the fault of the user.
Furthermore all content on CompSci.ca and DWITE.ca should be taken as opinion
and we do not see how comments and posts can be taken as anything but opinion."

I have to ask.... If you were trying to be "nice", what good is deleting
my name from the post if you placed a link to it through the legal threat
page, now the 4th spot on a google search of my name. Brilliant.

JUST FOR THE RECORD... I NEVER had any intention whatsoever or suggested that
any action was to be taken against compsci or any of its creators/admins on my
behalf. The issue here is directly related to user zeldamaster1230. Clearly the
comments made by user zeldamaster1230 are beyond "opinion". They are FALSE
allegations aimed at potentiating charges of crimial harassment and threatening
bodily harm. Should I happen to find out who this zeldamaster1230 is, I will be
sure to seek any and all retribution afforded by me through the law. Spreading
lies of such nature is punishable under federal law, I might add. AT THE VERY
LEAST The said post by zeldamaster1230 should have been deleted immediately
because it is in direct countervention of your TERMS OF USE(1). which you claim
to uphold, for THESE SPECIFIC OCCURANCES!!! Instead I am forced into an endless
slew of email bickering in a diplomatic attempt to clear up my good name on the
internet.

   1. (1)to contribute any Content that is infringing, libelous, defamatory,
obscene, pornographic, abusive, offensive or otherwise violates any
       law or right of any third party;

Michael,

The legal threat page is per our policy. From your original email, where
you've said: "I ask that they are removed IMMEDIATELY so that further
action is not required."; I will interpret "further actions" as a legal
threat.

If you are this concerned about any new page with your name showing up on
Google, you might be interested in starting a personal blog to secure the
top results with your own content.

The bottom line is that comments made by zeldamaster1230 are not libelous
as they were not posted as "facts", nor were they made about you. As unique
as you might think your name is, Facebook alone returns 3 matches on exact
name search.
