Arch Linux, first released in 2002, their goal was a simple and lightweight distribution, which is optimized for i686 and x86-64 systems.
They follow five principles which are referred to as "the Arch Way", or "the Arch Philosophy", or in other terms KISS (Keep is Simple, Stupid).
Their goals are:
- Simple
- Code-correctness over convenience
- Open
- User-centric
- Free
A full description of their goals can be found on their site, here.
Arch follows a rolling release system.
