What is Arch?

Arch Linux, first released in 2002, their goal was a simple and lightweight distribution, which is optimized for i686 and x86-64 systems.

They follow five priniciples which they refer to as "the Arch Way", or "the Arch Philosophy", or in other terms KISS (Keep is Simple, Stupid).

Their goals are:

  1. Simple
  2. Code-correctness over convenience
  3. Open
  4. User-centric
  5. Free

A full description of their goals can be found on their site, here
