A popular and highly successful computer maker with a long history, Apple makes a wide range of desktop and notebook computers.

They differentiate themselves from competitors by developing their own advanced Unix-based operating system. This operating system and the software developed for it has created a very strong following and allows the company to insulate itself to some extent from economic forces that hurt computer makers like Dell and HP whose computers run Windows and who, due to this fundamental commonality, must compete almost solely on price.
